Blindfold
Interactive, Sound Art
2006

Blindfold is a virtual and interactive sound application realized in Max/MSP. The user can experience the situation of a blind person being forced to just navigate through sound.

It is based on an article by Marc Schürmann about blind people collecting audio memories while they travel like photographs.
I met Carsten Albrecht (in the picture) in Hamburg for an Interview and was fascinated by the way he recalled his memories from a trip with a ferry. While listening to his recordings he described in detail how excited he was about the sound of the horn and how he tried to capure the sound with his recording device.

The process, working with this idea, capturing my own everyday sounds led to a new understanding of listening, of beeing able to hear beauty in chaos and noise.
